A long time fan of the sequin I've collected vintage and modern shimmery pieces for years. As a fashion obsessed who scampers at any chance to add to the wow factor, simply thrilled!

Traditionally I love purple mixed with black...especially black patent. However, this season I've fallen for the unexpected contrasted with orange, yellow and silver.

Current Crave: Fall Nail Polish

August is such a time for transition for me and it doesn't just stop in the wardrobe department. Currently I'm craving the dark vampy reds but the timing is not just right. Taking a cue from the runway, as I often do I've selected a few shades: lighter for now & darker for later.

An opalescent shade is modern and current. Not the matte white that we saw a few seasons ago but more of a shimmer or hint of white mixed with taupe, gray or gold. The dark shades are so luxe and glamorous for when the heat wave has subsided...think fur, gold jewelry & black leather.

Take the time to get a regular mani/pedi even if you do it yourself as your total look doesn't just stop at the perfect outfit. Nail colors shouldn't match your outfit....major beauty peeve of mine. Rather select a complimentary color, YOU want to shine not your nail polish. As I always say, beauty is in the details!

Fit Tip: Jeans should always fit in the thigh, to best create the legs for days look. A wide bell will actually add height and trim and lengthen the legs.

Always pair with some killer heels, wedge sandals or platform pumps for just the right amount of kick & glam.

Destructed, light or super dark I love them all. Mix your dressier tops with a destructed pair for a dressed down rocker attitude. Pair simple tops, vests & layers with darker denim for a more sophisticated flare.

Sometimes I will venture into my closet for inspiration for writing by looking at what I am buying. Latest purchases have included, ruffled tops, studded belts, chunky bracelets...just to mention a few.

Lately, I've been attracted to feminine romance intermingled with a rocker's edge. I suppose I'm getting in touch with my romantic side with major attitude!

Leopard comes around and stays around. Year after year it keeps prowling it's way onto the fashion runway. Personally, I have countless animal print items in my closet from shoes to coats, and I never seem to tire of this timeless chic pattern.

When selecting animal print make your choices based on a pattern & fabric that best resembles the actual animal. Don't go too cheap with leopard print...it's best to not do it if you're not going to do it right.

Keep the rest of your outfit basic, classic & simple. Add a bit of roar to a classic LBD or a touch of glam attitude to jeans & a tee.

Stand out in a sea of black in one of this season's hottest colors: yellow.

To know me is to know I rarely... okay...never wear color. But I always recommend color to my friends & clients.
So in this case...do not as I do...do as I say!

As refreshing as a light rain a jewel tone dress heightens the senses and brings about a warmth to the skin tone.

Keep jewelry minimal. The dress is the statement.
Mix nudes, tans, greys or blacks with jewel tones for an elegantly chic look. Too many contrasting colors often comes across as harlequin...not the effect you want.
Too much color: wear tights. If you are a color shy gal tone down the color by pairing with matte black tights or a cropped black jacket.

Wear with confidence....you will get noticed!

Just like the first time I hear a new song on the radio... neon has taken a bit to adjust.

At first glance it's too bright or too girly.

Until I spied this dress whilst shopping the other day I think it's worth a second look.

Select a flattering cut. Neon is going to get you noticed so be sure the fit and length are right for your shape.

Keep jewelry simple. A basic bangle, cocktail ring or layered delicate chains are perfect. The dress is the statement so your jewels should compliment.

Shoes and bags should be neutral. Select nude, black or metallic to add contrast with a distraction. Nude will lengthen your legs and warm up your skin to the bright color.

I love when I see two similar but different looks...especially being rocked by a young socialite and a not as young fashion editor!

Why I like the look:

Boyfriend jeans have quickly become this seasons mainstay as they continue to be worn about the fashion world...even on the red carpet. Comfortable yet chic a look that can be dressed up or down.

Feminine meets masculine: by pairing a flirty sheer blouse with fitted blazers added a bit of edge to an otherwise demure top. Adding a scarf in a contrasting color (as seen in the white against black) gives the basic tee and blazer more interest.

Pumps with attitude: both muses selected shoes that everyone will notice. So take note: when dressing up boyfriend jeans ditch the flops and opt for a unique platform whether it's strappy, a peep toe bootie, suede or even studded here is where you get your glam.

Classic Bag: Both women opted for a classic...okay yes iconic bag. I love the way they mixed the rough rocker with a simple traditional bag. We all aren't fortunate to own an Hermes...but we all own a basic black tote.

One of my ultimate favorite lines from one of my most favorite movies...Fried Green Tomatoes.

Remember the scene when Evelyn Couch (Kathy Bates' character) used a sledge hammer to knock out a wall in her home only to be caught by her enraged husband as to what the hell she was doing?!?

Light and air! I love a great story and a great throw back in time when things were simple. People still sat on a porch, drank lemonade and women never left home without a shawl, wrap or as we currently refer to this garment: a scarf.

Now that summer is in full swing celebs are showing up in shorter lengths and I'm loving the combination of edgy pumps, leather jackets and feminine dresses.

Muses are such a fine resource when in search of inspiration for new looks. If you are searching for a way to re-mix your basics or jump start an idea for what you should shop for you can always turn to your favorite muse.

As a stylist I always recommend looking at fashion in different places and finding a muse that you can take a cue.

Finding your muse:

They are Everywhere: Don't just look to celebrities for fashion cues. Often times their style is unattainable and not practical. Include celebrities but also search for models, designers, socialites and even your local community for inspiration. These muses will often mix store bought clothing and vintage with couture which is more attainable. (Not the couture of course but the overall look)

Body conscious: Your muse can be your shape or not. Often times I find we are attracted to a muse because we wish we looked like her. However, the same is true about being attracted to our own body type. So, select a few different body types and remain aware of what will work for you.

Copy Cat: Just because you have some looks you love doesn't mean you should replicate that exact look. Rather take inspiration from a color, layering of a certain jacket, bold shoes or hem length...emulate through inspiration.

In a recent conversation with a girlfriend/client in desperate need of some new sunnies I recommended investing. Upon returning to my own closet and surveying my own sunglass collection I realized...the more the merrier!

Stylist Tip: Consider your face shape when selecting styles

Triangle: narrow forehead, wider at cheeks & chin. Style: Aviator to create balance.
Round: measures equally in width and length. Style: Angular narrow frames or rectangular frames to break up the roundness.
Oval: perfectly symmetrical. Style: lucky gals everything looks spot on! Try wrap around for a modern vibe.
Diamond: High cheekbones, narrowness at the eye line and jaw. Style: Square, rimless frames to balance the widest and narrowest parts of the face.
Oblong: longer than it is wide. Style: frames that are deep from top to bottom or have decorative temple details which draw the eye to the middle of the head and balance the length of the face.
Square: broad forehead and strong jaw line. Style: narrow frames such as oval, round or cat eye.
Heart: wide top and tapers down toward the chin. Style: narrow on top and wider on bottom, rimless and light color shades.

Temperatures are on the rise and as with everything else in the closet: denim is also getting lighter!

I'm loving the pairing of chic white denim with metallic flats.

Actually, I'm really loving metallic flats and think they add a certain chicness to white denim!

Think: Kate Bosworth, Jackie O., Ivanka Trump. Simple elegance.

Stylist Tip: white denim can be tricky in that it can sneakingly cause you to appear larger follow this advice and never be fooled!

Boot cut or straight styles are universally more flattering in that the break at the knee will create a slimmer line along the thighs. So unless you have stick pins (Kate Moss, Victoria Beckham) steer clear of skinny leg styles.
Fitted to flatter does not translate to tight and tacky. You have one butt and that is the only one we want to see in white denim. Do as Heidi Klum: 'a butt check'!
Hem hem hem! Ask your tailor for an original hem and no one will know the difference. Nothing is worse than dirty white jeans...so don't walk on them.

Meeting Mother for lunch or brunch....celebrate her day and your style!

Talking with friends or clients we often discuss what cues we took or did not take from our mothers.

As a child I was always dressed 'to the nines' or immaculately put together by a sophisticated, elegant and conservative mother.

My mother being a white collar professional was always dressed to impress: "You never know who you might happen to run into." And yes, that includes the late night run to the grocery store...sweatpants are NOT optional!

Rarely caught in a pair of jeans and always wearing pantie hose under trousers (I never really understood that one!) she was the epitome of class and sophisticated glamour.

Jewelry was never for frill but rather quality: "Spend your money wisely and make purchases count." If you can only afford one piece make it investment worthy!

"Hem lengths should always be age appropriate and for goodness sake once your hips can handle children...stay out of the junior department!" This one I adapted a bit...but the point through observation was still achieved.

Never one to look back on a photo and regret her image...avoiding fashion faux pas 'transcend time, travel & trends'.

I may not have taken all of my mother's fashion advice and often rebelled (as I sit writing this in boyfriend destroyed jeans, gladiators & a black tuxedo blouse)...but I did learn the invaluable lesson of being true to my style.

Never compromise for fashion and to be endearingly chic...always dress for me!

A Chanel muse that is often seen in Valentino, Burberry and 3.1 Phillip Lim, Diane Kruger has mastered the art of dressing for the red carpet. Fortunately, her street style is every bit of fabulous!

Gone are the days when we would purchase a cheap tee, tie it all together and throw in some dye and call it fashion!

The current tie dye is more sophisticated and doesn't scream 'I made this' or 'I'm still looking for Woodstock!'

Rather the modern trend evolves around being chic, fashion forward and simple. Washed hues mixed with neutrals such as black, grey and beige give the pieces more interest and elegance whilst still being on the edge.

What comes around....is the feeling I get from the latest trend spotting on these stylish muses!

At one time or another in our lives we have all owned a denim jacket, borrowed our boyfriend's or stumbled upon a rare vintage find in a shop that no longer exists!

Before we go walking too far down memory lane and you begin to dig through your closet...lets take a look at the new restructured denim jacket.

Stretch: modern denim jackets have a hint of stretch to flatter the figure and give a more stream lined appearance rather than the old boxy shape of the past

Wash: varying from acid to dark black anything goes this time around. Personally, I prefer a medium vintage wash as seen on the muses above. It mixes well with other colors and dresses up a bit easier.

Cut: Hip length or cropped jackets are most flattering on all body types. If you are really petite a cropped jacket will lengthen your torso and give the illusion of more height. If you are leggy a jacket that just skims the hip bones will balance out your top half.

I don't have style rules...if anything the only rule I have is to not obey fashion rules and be your own fabulous fashionable self. But with a denim jacket I must say this one rule and I must insist as your stylist that you obey....because if not...don't you DARE say you take advice from me!!

Denim Jacket Rule: NEVER under any circumstance pair your denim jacket with other denim pieces!!! Thankfully it went out in the 80's...and let's all do our part to keep it there!

Simple Styling: Pair a denim jacket with a frilly skirt & tank, your little black dress, leggings & a tunic, a maxi dress, or unexpectedly pair it with your suiting trousers & blouse sans jacket of course!

By wearing a tank of the same or complimentary color the top is no longer too short because the tank will create an illusion of a longer length. Selecting a complimentary color will add a piece of drama to your outfit.

Bra straps: Please wear appropriate colors under tanks...classy not trashy! Nude under white, black under black, racer back cut bra under racer back cut tank...I know it seems fun but show your personality in other ways than with your underwear.

I love girly accessories and frilly dresses but I've always believed flowers should stay in a vase and off of my clothes. Until now...

A maxi dress is not necessarily a figure flaunter but if you have great arms or shoulders they can be very elegant.

Is she naturally fabulous...sure...but she's also petite and curvy and shaped more like a regular gal. So what makes her denim selections noteworthy....FIT!

Tall, short, petite, full, skinny or pear shaped women can all wear denim gracefully and elegantly.

The difference between looking frumpy and slobbish to looking classy and stylish is a mere few inches...FIT!

Denim Fit Guide:

Petite:

Skinny, straight and boot cut denim are your friends. Wide leg trouser denim are also flattering if you want to minimize curves. Add heels for height and if hemming is required ask your tailor for "original hems". This will keep the jeans original seams intact.

Tall:

Low waist and long lengths are very flattering. Fortunately designers are now making denim with 36" inseams! Slim fits in straight, boot cut and flare show off your legs whilst keeping in touch with femininity. Mid-rise instead of high waist, typically because your waist is already high and you don't want it to fall right under your boobs.

Sizing:

Jeans should always fit your thigh!! Fitted in the thigh allows for the appropriate break at the knee as intended by the designer. Slimming the thigh, lengthening the legs and giving overall balance to the denim.
Be kind to your waist. If you have to suck your stomach in all day and can't wait too peel them off...chances are you need to go up a size. It's okay...no one will know and TRUST me you will look better than greeting everyone with a muffin! They would rather have blueberry...not your belly!
Invest in a tailor. Don't compromise fit because the jeans are too long. Have them hemmed and remember ask for "original hem".
Bum Check...make sure you only have one! I won't elaborate because you all know to what I am referring; that weird second cheek that magically appears below your God given bum because your jeans are too tight. Yea...you know!

No matter your size, shape or investment, jeans can be a great addition to your wardrobe. So whether you own 1 pair, 50 or even 200...they better FIT!
